Florida Highway 70 Road Crossing — c. 1989
Steve reported seeing a very dark roadside figure that he first took for a dog but later described as upright on two legs as his vehicle approached.

The encounter
Around the summer of 1989, Steve was driving west on Florida Highway 70 near Brighton while traveling from West Palm Beach toward Sarasota. He knew the route from repeated trips. At a distance he noticed a very dark figure beginning to cross the highway and first interpreted it as a black dog.
As he approached and slowed, Steve said the figure no longer looked quadrupedal. He described it as upright on two legs and estimated it at roughly 5.5 to 6 feet tall. The setting was a remote stretch of highway near a creek, and he did not recall a nearby parked vehicle or residence that would readily explain a person on foot.
Steve's wife was in the passenger seat but did not look up in time to see the figure, so the encounter remains a single-witness visual report. No physical evidence is reported, and the date remains approximate. The value of the account lies in the witness's description of his interpretation changing from an ordinary animal to an upright figure as the distance closed.
