Texas Highway 84 Daylight Encounter — 2019
Truck driver Matt Lankford reported a daylight roadside observation in which his interpretation changed several times as he approached a distant dark figure.

The encounter
At about 9:35 a.m. on May 20, 2019, truck driver Matt Lankford was southbound on Highway 84 between Abilene and Coleman, Texas, when he noticed a dark figure at a substantial distance. His account is notable because his interpretation changed several times as he continued toward it.
Lankford first thought he was looking at a black bull, then considered a large hog, and later a person in dark clothing. He described the distant movement as unusual or undulating and ultimately concluded that the figure did not match the conventional explanations he had considered. He later returned to the location.
The encounter is presently a single-witness daylight report with a precise date, approximate time and route. No physical evidence establishes what was seen. Lankford has described additional Texas sightings and field activity from 2026, but those later claims remain separate events and are not folded into the May 2019 Highway 84 case.
