How geography is handled

Normalized for navigation. Original wording preserved.

A source may say “Bluff Creek, Northern California,” “Stark County, Ohio,” or “Idaho / Colorado.” The Observatory preserves that original location text while also connecting the record to each explicitly named state or province. Multi-state records can therefore appear in more than one archive.

No maps yet

Phase 1 does not geocode records or publish exact coordinates. Records with unresolved or nonspecific geography remain outside state/province pages until the source supports a clearer location.
